Rent Assistance

Private Landlord Rent Supplement Program

The Private Landlord Rent Supplement Program is a provincially subsidized program, which allows seniors, individuals and families to rent from a private landlord at 30% of their income. A subsidy is provided through Heart River Housing directly to the Landlord for the balance of the rent.

An applicant who finds a private Landlord willing to accept or keep them as a tenant under this program is welcome to apply to have the rent subsidized. Heart River Housing works closely with a number of private landlords in our contracting communities with this program. Currently, we have an allotment of 83 designations with 35 private Landlords.

Household income is reviewed annually by Heart River Housing. Applicants are required to complete a standard application for accommodation form.

Direct Rent Supplement (DRS)

The DRS subsidy is provided directly to the recipient. The landlord is not involved in this type of subsidy program. Applicants who qualify for this program will receive a monthly rental subsidy (maximum $400.00) to assist them with paying their rent. Generally, recipients must pay 30% of their income towards their monthly rent and the program will pay the balance of the rent owing provided that it does not exceed the allowable maximum according to their needs. Monthly proof of rent payment is required.

Household income is reviewed annually by Heart River Housing.

Applicants are required to complete a standard application for accommodation form.
